andrew wk won't let you down

i have had major insomnia for a week now and last night i decided not to fight it. i had seen an mtv clip regarding the andrew wk conspiracy theory and....what? you never heard of it either?

i have been a fan since forever and i was totally oblivious to all this but apparently there has been much speculation about who/what andrew wk is. so my inability to fall asleep led me to look it up...stupid move.

there were pages and pages and video after video FULL of this whole drama i had no idea existed. needless to say i slept about 2.43 hours last night and spent the rest of today reading ALL of it.

my conclusion? they all be haters and/or 14 year olds with nothing better to do. duh it's the same guy. the same guy i looooooove. besides, isn't it all about the music and the PARTY?

discovering new music

a lot of people ask me where or how i discover new music. i have to admit, i'm actually pretty lazy about it. i just pay attention to the sounds around me and when a song makes me listen a little harder, i dig a little deeper.

i am a slave to the shazam app. i often hear songs in stores or while at dinner or sipping drinks and just have to know who it is. once i discover a band through shazam, i will look them up online...and the chase begins. i will visit their own site to learn more about them, their myspace to stream music, and finally, the music blogs to find out their secrets.

some of my favourite music blogs are hype machine to stream songs or to look up remixes and covers, and stereogum to find out when new albums are coming out or who is on tour.

what about you? where do you go to find new music?

third eye blind

i realize that choosing third eye blind as my first "music monday" band may compromise my music credibility, but stick with me here, i promise this will make sense...

i have been a third eye blind since day one. since i heard this song...

holy, thanks for ignoring the lame image, it was the only way i could find the song...

it has been six years since they released an album, their fourth, and although i am still listening to ursa major so i can love it as much as the first three, it is definitely worth a listen.

this is one of two albums, ursa minor will be released later this year. this is also the first time one of their albums has debuted at number 1 (in the us) which, as a long time fan, i am sooo proud of!

their sound, a little pop, a little more punk, to me, is the perfect reminder of my trips to san francisco (their hometown). every song brings me back to that bay...

and then of course there is lead singer, stephan jenkins...

gah, i know, so obnoxious, so arrogant...and that lisp? i dunno, call me an idiot, i love him!

i was hiding out all weekend at montreal's annual 2-day music festival, osheaga. kinda dissapointed in the fashion but i think it had to do with the wonky weather. totally humid and hot on day one and then monsoon-like rains on day two. anyway, here are the music highlights:

arctic monkeys

harder than usual, maybe they are experimenting with heavier drugs? still, there is something about this young lad that makes me swoon every time i see them live...

you know the love i have for this woman. she was amazing live. the energy, oh man, you couldn't help but be hypnotized. and lil wayne AND tribe called quest covers? i was in heaven.

la roux

if you haven't yet, go download some la roux, she is hotttt. one of the biggest surprises of the festival, an amazing performance.

oh, karen o. this is the second time i had seen them this summer (acutally, it was only two weeks before) and i can never get enough. she is amazing, what can i say!? one of my favorite bands of all time. epic performance.

oh, did i mention i was there with my boyfriend?

yup, adrian grenier (aka entourage's vince chase) was there performing with his band the honey brothers and i just happened to bump into him ;)
